EVE's eVTOL airworthiness criteria published
The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) published on Friday, November 1st, Ordinance Nº 15,760, dated October 31, 2024. The document establishes the Airworthiness Criteria for the EVE-10 aircraft model by EVE Urban Air Mobility Solutions. This document provides the regulatory framework that will guide the ongoing certification process for this model at the Agency.
This document outlines the criteria that must be met by the aircraft in areas such as its structure, control systems, propulsion, and battery. These requirements are paramount to ensuring flight safety.
The publication of the airworthiness criteria is a significant step in the aircraft certification process, as this is an entirely new type of equipment in the aviation sector, and no currently established regulation can readily serve as a certification basis. According to the current legal framework, the Agency may issue product certification criteria applicable to such exceptional cases by applying portions of existing regulatory directives deemed appropriate for the aircraft and applicable to the type design in question, while also adding other criteria considered necessary to provide equivalent safety levels to existing regulations.
Given this new technology, Anac opened a public consultation process in December 2023 in order to allow industry, certification authorities, and the public to discuss and enrichen the preliminary documentation. This was done to align internationally adopted practices and enable this Brazilian product to compete fairly in the international market. In total, 297 contributions were submitted, strengthening the Agency's certification process.
Further steps in certification
With the certification basis definition phase complete, the following steps for the process involve the approval of certification plans and EVE’s demonstration of compliance with the criteria. Following this, the compliance verification phase will take place, culminating in the issuance of the certification.
