With 8.3 million passengers carried, domestic market grows 11% in January
The Brazilian civil aviation domestic market handled 8.3 million passengers in the month of January 2023. This is the highest number of domestic passengers recorded in the month since 2021. The total represents an 11% growth over the total domestic passengers handled in January 2022 and 93.2% of the domestic demand recorded in January 2019, the period leading up to the covid-19 pandemic.
The data are contained in the most recent update of the Demand and Supply Report (available only in Portuguese) made available by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), with the consolidated data for January 2023.
The international market also registered growth: in January, 1.83 million passengers were carried, an increase of 73.3% compared with January 2022. The total reaches 75.6% of the flow recorded in January 2019.
The domestic demand for January, measured in revenue-passenger kilometers (RPK), had a positive variation of 6.7% compared to that recorded in the same month of 2022. The domestic supply, measured by available seat kilometers (ASK), had an increase of approximately 7.9% compared to January 2022.
Cargo Handling
In the cargo sector, the domestic market’s flow recorded in January 2023 was 32.5 thousand tons, 7.4% more than in January last year. The international cargo movement was 71.2 thousand tons, with a reduction of 6.4% compared with the tonnage measured in January 2022.
