ANAC participates in international operation to fight organized crime in general aviation
The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) participated in operation COLIBRI Rutilante, an international action to fight organized crime in general aviation implemented by the World Customs Organization (WCO). The initiative was part of the scope of the COLIBRI Project for Monitoring and General Control of Aviation, which, besides being organized by WCO, is financed by the European Union (EU).
The operation took place between January 14 and 22, 2023, involving 60 administrations from 15 partner countries in the Americas and Caribbean (AMS) and West and Central Africa (WCA), along with four WCO Regional Intelligence Liaison Offices (RILO). The action also had the joint coordination of the European Maritime Analysis and Operations Center-Narcotics (MAOC-N). In Brazil, besides ANAC, the following also participated in the operation: the Federal Revenue (RF), which coordinated the action in the country, the Federal Police (PF), the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin).
The initiative aimed to combat the activities of transnational organized crime, improve the effectiveness of controls in general aviation, strengthen cooperation and coordination between partner countries and public institutions and the European Union and promote a regular and constant flow of information between those involved.
ANAC’s participation in the operation was carried out by joint action with the Intelligence and Surveillance Management of General Aviation Aircraft in four airports (Guarulhos, Confins, Recife and Salvador). The Agency’s actions allowed for greater integration and synergy between national and international agencies, and contributed to the fight against illicit activities in civil aviation.
