ANAC and foreign authorities sign cooperation agreements for e-VTOL certification
The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) signed, on June 14, 2023, two letters of intent for certification of electric vehicles for vertical takeoff and landing (e-VTOL). The agreements were signed with the European civil aviation authority, EASA, and the UK civil aviation authority, CAA-UK.
The e-VTOLs are in the early stages of development, but they are already the new trend in air transport and the possibility is that the technology will become a reality in the coming years, which is why ANAC is already studying regulations for the certification of these air vehicles.
The agreements signed between the authorities during the conference formalize the intention of the civil aviation authorities to work together to build e-VTOL certification, sharing experiences and working collaboratively.
The e-VTOL should bring improvements in air transport over short and medium distances, greater integration with cities, lower noise levels (compared to helicopters) and alignment with sustainable practices, with zero emission of pollutants.
In Brazil, there is growing interest from airline operators in handling this new technology.
The agreements were signed during the EASA-FAA Safety Conference, which took place in the city of Cologne, Germany, and was attended by the world’s main regulatory agencies.
