eVTOL type certification process begins at ANAC
On February 8, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) made official the beginning of type certification of the Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft EVE-100, made by Eve Urban Air Mobility. This was the first application received and validated by the Agency to obtain a type certificate for aircraft with vertical take-off and landing characteristics.
The validation of the application by the Agency marks the beginning of the type certification process, the first in a series of steps that verify the safety requirements of the aircraft, including tests and evaluations of all relevant technical aspects to ensure the safety of the aircraft project.
In the view of ANAC’s Head of Department of Airworthiness, Roberto Honorato, this is the beginning of a project that brings significant gain in the future of aviation, not only in Brazil, but with a view to the global market. “From the regulatory point of view, there is a lot of work to be done, not only in relation to aircraft technology, but in the definition of the entire ecosystem. Brazil has the conditions and engagement to deal with this challenge,” he highlighted.
The EVE-100 will be designed to carry four passengers with one pilot on board. The eVTOL has eight rotors responsible for vertical take-off and landing, and two rotors responsible for horizontal displacement. The aircraft is fully electric, with low noise and zero carbon emissions. According to the company, the EVE-100 is in the early stages of development.
ANAC is internationally recognized as one of the main aircraft certification agencies in the world, being a member of the Certification Management Team (CMT) along with the North American (FAA), European (EASA) and Canadian (TCCA) agencies, which facilitates the acceptance of Brazilian aeronautical products on a global scale.
