ANAC resumes slot monitoring rules for domestic flights and maintains flexibility for international flights
The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) decided, via Resolution No. 688, dated August 17, 2022 (available only in Portuguese), the return of the regularity target to 80% in all coordinated airports for the Winter 2022 season (W22), which runs from October 30, 2022 to March 25, 2023.
Domestic flights
For the monitoring of slots on domestic flights, the pre-pandemic rules are back in force, and the waiver for slot cancellations (arrival and departure times at coordinated airports) in the calculation of the regularity index for airlines to obtain historic rights will no longer apply.
International flights
Given the pace of recovery of the international air market, still impacted by the effects of the covid-19 pandemic, the penalty waiver will continue to be applied to slot cancellations for international flights, provided that the departure and arrival times come from historic slots and are returned at least seven days before the Baseline Disclosure (BDR+7).
The airline that makes use of the rebate may only reapply for the cancelled international slots after 30 days from the date of return, subject to airport infrastructure availability.
