Air transport indicators grow in 2022 compared to January 2021
The main air transport indicators for the month of January, released on February 25 by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) show a 23% growth in passenger demand (measured in RPK) and 20% growth in the supply of flights (measured in ASK) in the domestic market, compared to the same period last year. When compared to 2019 numbers (pre-pandemic), however, demand and supply were down 9.0% and 8.6%, respectively.
During the first month of this year, airports across the country carried 7.5 million passengers on domestic routes, a volume 22% higher compared to the total number of people who traveled in the same month last year. In the comparison with 2019, the indicator was down 16%. Cargo transport also maintained growth in the first month of the year in comparison with the same period of 2021, with just over 30 thousand tons transported – an increase of 7.1%, and a drop of 10% compared to two years earlier.
International Market
The demand and supply in the international market showed a strong growth in comparison with January of last year, of 163% and 77%, respectively. These indicators, however, are 50% and 44% below the data recorded in the pre-pandemic period. In the first month of this year, just over 1 million people took flights to destinations outside the country, a figure 166% higher than was recorded a year earlier – and a 58% retraction with the total recorded in 2019.
In January this year, cargo transportation recorded the highest volume for the month since the beginning of the historical series, in 2000, with almost 76 thousand tons transported. The number represents an increase of 14.2% with the same period in 2020 and 14.1% compared to two earlier. This was the indicator’s 14th consecutive growth.
