AVIATION MARKET
September domestic market indicators approach pre-pandemic data
Demand and supply of flights in the domestic market are close to the level of the pre-pandemic period, according to data released on October 26 by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). The indicators measured in September this year showed a 17% retraction in comparison with data from 2019. The main figures for the airline industry are available for consultation on ANAC’s website (available only in Portuguese).
During the entire month of September this year, more than 5.8 million passengers were boarded in the domestic market, the figure corresponds to 75% of the total boardings in the same period of 2019. In the year-to-date, this figure was around 41 million passengers, a 40.6% reduction compared to two years earlier.
The volume of cargo and paid mail carried by airlines in the month of September within the country was 32.5 thousand tons, 9.7% lower than the total recorded in the same period of 2019.
International market
Although some countries have already reopened their borders for international tourism, overall, the indicators of the foreign market remain under the influence of the strong retraction recorded in recent months. Passenger demand in the ninth (9th) month of the year was 73.6% lower than the figure recorded in the same month of 2019. In the comparison with the same period, the drop in the supply by flights was 61.6%.
In turn, the transportation of cargo and paid mail had a growth of 24% in the month of September compared to two years earlier, with a total volume of 81,818 tons transported. In the accumulated nine months of the year, the increase in the indicator was approximately 14% compared to the data of 2019.
The comparison of the indicators presented with the same period of 2019 has been carried out in this way, considering that two years ago, aviation was not under the impact of the pandemic caused by Covid-19, which has affected air transport for at least 18 months.
