Latin America and the Caribbean's main commercial aviation event brings together airline industry officials
The largest event of the commercial aviation sector in Latin America and the Caribbean ALTA Airline Leaders Forum took place from October 24 to 26, 2021, in Bogotá, Colombia. The meeting was attended by CEOs of airlines and airport operators, Ministers of State, Directors of Civil Aviation Authorities, and exhibitors from several industry segments. The Director-President of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), Juliano Noman, debated with the CEOs and Directors-General of the Latin American and Caribbean Civil Aviation Authorities about the main challenges of the sector in the post-pandemic scenario. In the 10/25 session, Noman presented the regulatory improvements underway in Brazil to increase the sector’s efficiency and reduce costs, shared the actions of the Voo Simples Program and emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry and civil aviation authorities to strengthen the just culture of operational safety, based on the principles of responsive regulation. Also participating in the session, as debaters, were the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration – FAA, Stephen Dickson, the Director-General of Transport Policy of the European Commission, Henrik Hololei, and the Regional Directors of the ICAO Offices in Lima and Mexico, Fabio Rabbani and Melvin Cintron.
Bilateral Meetings
During the official visit of the President of Colombia to Brazil, on October 18, the Colombian and Brazilian Presidents signed the Open Skies Agreement between the two countries. This is the second agreement of this type signed by Colombia with another country, the first having been with the United States. In the case of Brazil, the agreement will now go to a referendum of the National Congress for later ratification. During the ALTA, the Director-President of ANAC, Juliano Noman, and the Director of Aerocivil of Colombia, Jair Orlando Fajardo, stressed the importance of this agreement to promote and expand air connectivity between the two countries.
Noman also met bilaterally with the Executive Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bolivia, Celier Aparicio Arispe Rosas, and with the Director-General of Transport Policy of the European Commission, Henrik Hololei. On the agenda, topics of common interest were discussed, such as the sustainability of the airline industry and the resumption of airline operations in the post-pandemic scenario.
