Brazilian airports are among the most punctual in the world
Cirium, a company specialized in global civil aviation data, recently shared its Airport On-Time Performance Report for July. The report features rankings of the world’s most on-time airports among airports of equal passenger processing capacity. In the Global Airports category, the airport of Guarulhos, in São Paulo/SP, stood out in the 3rd position, with 90.16% punctuality.
In the list of Large Airports, the terminals Congonhas, in São Paulo, Brasília, in the Federal District (DF), and Viracopos, in Campinas (SP), also appear with better punctuality rates. In the July report, Congonhas airport was in the 2nd position, with 95.51% punctuality, closely followed by the Federal Capital terminal, which was in the 3rd position, with 95.41%. The Viracopos terminal, on the other hand, was listed in 13th place, with 90.05%. In the previous report (June), the last two airports mentioned were also in the ranking, in 4th (96.94%) and 18th (88.99%) position, respectively.
The airports of Congonhas, Guarulhos, Campinas and Brasília are among the terminals with the highest number of landings and takeoffs in the country. In the first six months of the year, together they have already performed more than 177 thousand landings and takeoffs in the domestic and international market. The number represents almost 40% of the total flow of flights in the first half of the year.
Cirium’s methodology for categorizing airports into Global, Large, Medium, and Small considers the regions served and the number of flights processed. Airports from the Global category may appear in the Large category.
About the Report
Conducted for 11 years, the report is released monthly by the company. However, due to the effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in civil aviation worldwide, the indicators ceased to be published early last year. With the resumption of air transport around the world, the data started to be shared again in May this year. The reports for the last two years are available for consultation on the Cirium website.
