ANAC validates the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Brazil
Last Friday, August 6 th , the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) issued the Type Certificate for Boeing 787 , also known as “Dreamliner”, which validates the aircraft's design in Brazil and constitutes one of the steps to allow Brazilian operators to use the aircraft.
Originally certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2011, it has been in operation around the world since then. The validation of the aircraft design in Brazil allows ANAC to know and be involved in relevant and safety aspects of the design, focusing on ensuring safe operation and continued airworthiness for Brazilian operators.
Boeing 787 operates with two engines with a capacity ranging from 300 to 440 passengers, depending on the seating configuration. It is a wide-body aircraft and is usually used for long-haul international flights. The aircraft uses a series of new technologies mainly in its construction with composite material and is also known for being very efficient in terms of fuel consumption.
Validation process
ANAC/SAR received from Boeing (via FAA) the request for validation in Brazil of the Boeing 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10 models. Technical familiarization meetings in virtual format were held with the participation of ANAC, Boeing and FAA. In these meetings, it was possible for ANAC to have more information about the design, allowing the clarification of initial questions as well as a better definition of the involvement of the technical areas in the process. For this validation, a work plan was prepared, detailing the disciplines and areas of interest that ANAC was involved with dozens of coordination and technical meetings being held to address the items raised. Throughout this process, there was an interface at various times with ANAC and with the first operator (LATAM).
The validation process included the participation of several Agency professionals, including engineers from different specialties and pilots. In addition, the validation included carrying out flight test and operational evaluation activities for aircraft in the United States of America. At the end of July, the final coordination was performed to complete the validation, culminating in the issuance of the Type Certificate on August 6 th .
