ANAC starts the public consultation on the expansion of the Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) category
The Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) launched, on January 21st, the Public Consultation No. 2 of 2022 on the proposed amendments to the Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulations (RBACs) No. 01 and No. 21, the airworthiness requirements adopted by the ANAC for the Light Sport Aircraft category (LSA). On February 3rd, the Agency will promote a virtual public hearing, in Portuguese, to collect verbal manifestations from interested parties.
The changes proposed in the amendments presented in this consultation are the outcome from the Study Group formed by the ANAC and the Brazilian LSA manufacturers in April of last year to evaluate the current rules and verify the possibility of expanding the category. Learn more about this Study Group (click on the link to access).
Additionally, in May 2021, the Agency opened a Public Survey to collect evaluations from the target audience on the advantages and disadvantages of a special light sport aircraft when compared to other categories, such as certified and amateur-build aircraft.
For this consultation, there will be a virtual public hearing, in Portuguese, on February 3rd, starting at 2 pm, broadcast on the ANAC's official YouTube channel (click to access). Those interested in expressing themselves verbally during the virtual session must register in advance through the email address secretaria.geral@anac.gov.br until 6 pm on February 1st.
The documents and drafts for amending the regulations are available for access, in Portuguese, on the Public Consultation page on the ANAC portal (click on the link to access). For foreign audiences, an English version of the comparison between the current and proposed requirements was made available (click to access: Comparison chart RBAC 01 and Comparison chart RBAC 21). Contributions must be sent in the form available on the page by March 24th, 2022.
The regulatory changes for LSA in Brazil and the expansion of this category are a priority for the Agency. This is one of the 19 themes established in the Regulatory Agenda for the 2021-2022 biennium.
