ANAC releases results of the 2nd edition of the Sustainable Airports project
Reinforcing the commitment of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) to promote and debate sustainable measures for the future of civil aviation, the results of the second edition of the Sustainable Airports project – a program that aims to encourage best management practices in airport environments – was released on 8th June, in a webinar on sustainability in airport management. The airports of Salvador, Manaus and Macaé were the highlights among the 16 participating airports.
The project, which had its first edition launched in 2019, seeks to encourage debate and reflection on sustainability by measuring the environmental performance index (IDA) of Brazilian airports. The evaluation is carried out based on criteria that consider the management of airports in the following environmental topics: electric power, water resources, waste, biodiversity, local air quality, climate change, aircraft noise, health and well-being, as well as organizational management and environmental education.
The airports enrolled voluntarily and began competing in groups according to the number of passengers processed annually, following the provisions of the Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation (RBAC) N. 153. The classification occurred by levels, being: “first class”, for airports with scores higher or equal to the simple average of their group; and “business class”, for airports with scores lower than the average, being excluded from the classification participants with final scores lower than 25%.
See below the complete ranking results and go to the BI for more details (available only in Portuguese).
