Safety Management Summit Brazil gathers world civil aviation authorities
About 280 people from the aeronautical community participated in the 4th edition of the Safety Management Summit (SMS Brazil), held at the Hotel Mélia Ibirapuera, in São Paulo. The event aims to provide the exchange and sharing of experiences between representatives of the civil aviation community to discuss best practices in safety.
The SMS Brazil is part of the safety calendar of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and it is promoted by the Agency and by the Department of Airspace Control (DECEA).
The event was opened by the Head of Department of Flight Standards, João Garcia, and by the Deputy Director of the DECEA, Major Air Brigadier Walcyr Josué de Castilho. The Agency representative at the event, João Garcia thanked the participants and reinforced ANAC's commitment to best practices in the safety area.
The first day of SMS featured panels by representatives of air and airport infrastructure operators, maintenance organizations, aircraft manufacturers, research centers and government officials.
The prevention and investigation of aeronautical accidents, the establishment of systems for voluntary occurrence reporting and the implementation of safety management systems were the main topics addressed on the second and last day of the event.
In addition to the presentations, this year's SMS edition featured a debate that was attended by the Safety Management International Collaboration Group (SM-ICG), represented by Andrew Lawrence of the Canadian Civil Aviation Authority (TCCA), and the Pan American Regional Aviation Safety Team (PA-RAST), with the participation of Gabriel Acosta of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
InovANAC Award Winners
During the Safety Management Summit (SMS Brazil) 2019 edition, InovANAC Safety Award winners were announced. The contest is an initiative to stimulate the culture of innovation in civil aviation, and awards ideas and practices that serve as inspiration or reference for promoting safety. InovANAC is divided into 3 categories: Aerodromes, Air Operators and Airworthiness.
