Imports are an inherent part of international trade in food and agricultural products, contributing to the diversification of domestic markets, and supplying the inputs and raw materials necessary for production in Brazil. At each step of the import process there are a set of measures that should be taken, covering aspects that go beyond tariff and customs issues.
Within this context, the Secretariat of Animal and Plant Health (SDA) executes government actions relating to the official controls inplant and animal health, quality and compliance of agricultural inputs and animal and plant products that are brought into Brazil anywhere in its territory. These actions are critical for minimizing the risk of pests, pathogens and diseases being introduced into Brazil, thereby protecting crops, herds and biodiversity also beverages that do not attend the patterns of quality and identity and vegetables and by-products that do not attend Brazilian requirements.
