REGIMEN FOR IMPORT ALERT - RAI
WHAT IS THE REGIMEN FOR IMPORT ALERT?
Over the last few decades, Brazil has increased its participation in the international market as an importing country of some types of animal products, especially fish and milk products.
The Federal Inspection Service (SIF) has geared its efforts to ensure safe, good-quality imported products for the Brazilian consumers.
In order to increase these guarantees and protect Brazilian consumers, MAPA has worked on several fronts in the official control of the compliance of imported products, intensifying inspection procedures and taking samples for tests in official laboratories.
The Secretariat of Animal and Plant Health (SDA) drafted Internal Standard (Norma Interna) no 1, dated December 20, 2018, aiming at regulating the procedures of implementation of the Regimen for Import Alert (RAI) as per Normative Instruction no. 34, dated September 25, 2018, listing foreign companies whose products exported to Brazil have presented some kind of non-compliance during inspection procedures
LIST OF PRODUCTS WITH RAI NOTIFICATIONS
The importation of products from foreign companies under the Regimen for Import Alert (RAI) shall only be authorized by the following ports, airports and border inspection posts where inspection and sampling shall be performed by the Units of the VIGIAGRO System. Clearance of products for sale will depend on proof of compliance by laboratory tests.
NOTIFICATIONS THAT ARE NOT AMENABLE TO THE REGIMEN FOR IMPORT ALERT (RAI)
For companies that have presented consignments with irregularities not amenable to being included in the Regimen for Import Alert (RAI), the LIST OF ESTABLISHMENTS WITH NOTIFICATIONS THAT ARE NOT AMENABLE TO THE REGIMEN FOR IMPORT ALERT (RAI) was established. These consignments are not required to be held by the VIGIAGRO Units but demand greater attention during reinspection, based on reasons given on the list.

SUSPENDED ESTABLISHMENTS
The finding of non-compliances, amenable or otherwise to inclusion in the Regimen for Import Alert (RAI), results in submitting the notifications to the foreign health authorities with a defined deadline for response. Failure to meet that deadline, unsatisfactory responses or repeated non-compliances of the same nature may result in suspension of the eligibility. In these cases, the establishment is banned from producing, packing, and issuing certificates for products intended for Brazil at any time during the suspension. Therefore, although importation may already have been authorized, if products are produced and certified after the suspension, they will not be allowed to enter Brazil.
