International Audits
General Information
Official veterinary audits to Brazil may have as their primary objective the approval of establishments by visits on a “plant by plant” basis as well as the assessment of Brazil’s Official Veterinary Service.
Within this context, it is worth mentioning that there are also audits for accessing to a new market, when Brazil does not export to a particular country yet, and maintenance audits, which, once the market has been opened, aim to renew approvals or seek new approvals for exporting establishments.
The itinerary of the mission may consist of establishments chosen by the importing country based on its own criteria or through an invitation published by the Division for International Audits (DIAI) in SIGSIF and on the MAPA web page through which establishments can show their interest.
The importing country usually defines the number of teams/auditors that will visit Brazil and the number of days of the audit. Audits dates are usually agreed upon between the interested parties.
In the event of an invitation leading to a higher number of interested establishments than there are places available for the audit, a second invitation will be issued for the random selection of those establishments interested in that audit, published in the same way.
Audits are open to all establishments under the Federal Inspection Service (SIF) that are interested in taking part; they do not have to be affiliated to an association.
The importing country submits the preliminary report listing establishments which are eligible, those with pending issues and those not eligible.
Establishments with pending issues must submit, within the defined deadline, action plans for the non-compliances pointed out in the report, with one version in Portuguese and one in English or in the native language of the importing country.
How to Participate
The interested party must officially express interest to the Federal Agricultural Inspector/Auditor (AFFA) in charge of the Federal Inspection Service (SIF) of their establishment by filling out a specific form.
The Federal Inspection Service (SIF) will submit it to the respective SIPOA, which, after approving the recommendation, will submit the case file to DIAI/CGCOA/DIPOA/DAS/MAPA.
It is entirely the responsibility of the interested party to follow up its request with the respective SIF and SIPOA, so it will be presented on the date specified by the DIPOA invitation. Extemporaneous expressions of interest will not be considered.
