The first quarter of 2024 will go down in history as the most productive in terms of international market access for Brazilian agribusiness. From January to April, 31 new opportunities for external sales of Brazilian agricultural products were established across 19 different countries.
March led the way with ten new market accesses in seven countries, followed by January with nine market openings in five countries. February and April completed the list with openings in seven and five markets, respectively, spread across six and three countries.
Since the beginning of President Lula's third term in 2023, and under the leadership of Minister Carlos Fávaro at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), 109 new export markets have opened in 50 countries, spanning all continents.
"The restoration of Brazil's credibility with various trading partners, coupled with the dedicated work of our technical team, has increasingly provided business opportunities for Brazilian producers across various sectors. This isn't just about agribusiness; it's about creating more jobs for the population when new markets emerge," explained Agriculture Minister Carlos Fávaro.
The record of new market access includes not only established products like meat and soybeans but also a variety of other agricultural items. Among them are fish, seeds, gelatin and collagen, eggs, products derived from animal recycling, açaí powder, green coffee, as well as embryos and semen.
"These expansions create more opportunities for our producers, generate additional jobs and income in rural areas, and showcase the effectiveness of our health system," said Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Trade and International Relations at Mapa.
The sanitary concessions obtained from each country are a direct result of the partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
