Russia and other members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) may now import live pigs from Brazil
The Brazilian government has received confirmation of access to new agricultural markets in all five member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) - Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan - for the importation of live pigs from Brazil.
This marks the second significant expansion in trade for Brazilian agricultural products within the EAEU in less than 10 months. In September 2023, exports of live cattle to EAEU members were greenlit. These market openings are a result of diplomatic missions led by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), with the support of the Brazilian Embassy in Russia.
In 2023, Brazil exported slightly over US$1.2 billion in agribusiness goods to the EAEU, with key items including soybeans, beef, green coffee, and raw sugar.
This announcement brings Brazilian agribusiness to its 39th market access achievement in 24 countries this year alone, and a total of 117 market openings in 50 countries since the start of President Lula's term.
