Record market accesses mark the best half-year for Brazilian agribusiness foreign trade
In just the first six months of 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock accessed 72 new markets for Brazilian agricultural products worldwide, benefiting 30 countries. This number surpasses previous records and exceeds the totals for the entire years of 2019 and 2022, which had 35 and 53 new market accesses, respectively.
June was the month that most contributed to making this the best half-year in the history of Brazilian agribusiness foreign trade. During the month, 26 markets were accessed in 13 countries, accounting for 32% of all market openings for the year.
"Brazil is in high demand for quality products. We have broken all records for market accesses—18 months, one and a half years of Lula's government—with 150 markets accessed for Brazilian agribusiness products," emphasized the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro.
The market accesses of 2024 already cover all continents: Africa (6) - South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Nigeria, Zambia, and Egypt; Asia (13) - Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, China and Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines, India, Oman, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, and Turkey; Europe (3) - Belarus, Russia, and Great Britain; Oceania (1) - Australia; and the Americas (7) - Canada, Mexico, the United States, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Peru.
Among the main products that had agreements on sanitary and phytosanitary requirements are farmed fish and derivatives, vegetable seeds, live pigs and their derivatives, pork, fish, gelatin and collagen of various origins, processed poultry proteins, shrimp-based products, bovine embryos, bovine semen, tilapia fingerlings, ornamental fish, sheep meat and meat products, beef extract, green coffee, eggs, and non-GMO corn.
The expansion of international markets has also boosted Brazilian exports, with agribusiness representing 49.6% of the total in the first five months of the year, generating USD 67.17 billion in revenue.
"Responding to the request of President Lula and Minister Fávaro, we have worked tirelessly and engaged in dialogue with various countries to offer even more opportunities to rural producers, facilitating exports and increasing the competitiveness of Brazilian products in the global market," highlighted the Secretary of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Roberto Perosa.
Since the beginning of 2023, the period marking the start of President Lula's third term and Minister Carlos Fávaro's tenure at the Ministry of Agriculture, Brazil has reached a total of 150 markets in 52 countries.
These achievements result from the joint efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
