BILATERAL MEETING
Minister Fávaro strengthens partnership with Angola’s President
During an official mission of Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) to Angola, Minister Carlos Fávaro met with Angolan President João Lourenço on Friday, October 6, at the Presidential Palace in Luanda. The meeting focused on deepening commercial and agricultural ties between the two countries.
Discussions emphasized strengthening strategic partnerships and exploring new business opportunities by connecting entrepreneurs, experts, and agricultural leaders. The goal is to enhance cooperation and promote agricultural development in both nations.
“We are delighted by the warm welcome from the Angolan government. With President Lula’s renewed focus on diplomacy, we are advancing this agenda. My mission here is to reaffirm our commitment to cooperation and open doors for new opportunities,” said Minister Fávaro.
President João Lourenço highlighted Angola’s strong partnership with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and expressed eagerness to expand collaboration and advance technical cooperation between the two nations.
A key topic of discussion was the Exchange of Notes for the Update of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation, signed during the Brazil-Angola Agro Business Forum. This updated agreement, initially established during President Lula’s visit to Angola, formalizes the involvement of Brazil’s Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), Angola’s Agronomic Research Institute (IIA), and the Veterinary Research Institute (IIV) in joint agricultural initiatives.
Additionally, Minister Fávaro and Angola’s Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Issac dos Anjos, signed a Letter of Intent for the Promotion of Agricultural Trade and Investments. This agreement reinforces both countries’ commitment to fostering integration and mutual growth in the agricultural sector.
Agenda Highlights
Minister Fávaro also met with Angola’s Minister for Economic Coordination, José Massano, to discuss potential areas for collaboration.
“Our shared expectations are ambitious, and we will work to align the commitments expressed by President Lula and President Lourenço,” said Massano.
“The Atlantic Ocean connects us rather than divides us. Angola has immense potential to become a leading producer and exporter of agricultural products,” added Fávaro.
