Minister Fávaro signs Memorandum of Understanding for agricultural technical cooperation with Chile
On Monday (5th), Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, accompanied by an interministerial delegation, signed 17 agreements and engaged in discussions on various topics, representing an expansion of the bilateral agenda. On this occasion, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for agricultural technical cooperation between Mapa and the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture.
The main objective of the agreement is to promote the development of agricultural systems through the joint implementation of programs, projects, and events in various areas of common interest. For example, the Chileans have shown interest in ZARC (Climate Risk Agricultural Zoning) and the ABC+ plan (Low Carbon Agriculture).
“South American integration is a reality that makes a difference in people's lives!” remarked President Lula. “The Brazil-Chile relationship must improve, especially in politics, friendship, and the belief that both Chilean and Brazilian people deserve more. A new era in Chile-Brazil relations has begun,” he added.
Minister Fávaro emphasized that the resumption of good relations between Brazil and its main international trade partners brings new perspectives for Brazilian agribusiness. “President Lula has brought the country back to the international stage. Good relations between Brazil and the world mean more opportunities. Each day we are gaining more space and opportunities. More Brazilian activity in foreign trade means more jobs and income at home,” he highlighted.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric reinforced the importance of the relationship between the countries and the agreements signed today. “President Lula and I were discussing the political work we need to do together to strengthen our borders. We are aware that we can work for the benefit of our countries,” he said.
Two other agreements were also signed. One is a Memorandum of Understanding on the electronic certification of wines and alcoholic beverages. The cooperation between the countries aims to increase the efficiency of exchanging official certificates and provide a mechanism to facilitate the continuous exchange of digital document versions. The idea is to improve the flow of Chilean wines to Brazil, as the electronic transmission of data eliminates the need for physical certificates of analysis and origin.
The other is an addendum to the memorandum on mutual recognition of Organic Certification. The goal is to mutually recognize the regulatory similarities of organic production to facilitate trade between the two countries. This initiative encourages the inclusion of small and medium producers in the export market.
