Minister Fávaro highlights Brazil-Chile trade relations at Business Forum
As part of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's interministerial delegation on an official visit to Chile, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Fávaro participated in the Brazil-Chile Business Forum on Monday (5th). The event was promoted by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) in Santiago, Chile.
Fávaro emphasized the strong commercial relationship and new market accesses for Brazilian agricultural products. “In these 19 months of government, we have broken all records in market access and commercial relations, records that transform into bilateral opportunities,” he said.
During the official mission, it was announced that a new Chilean market would open for Brazilian products, specifically the import of melons and frog skins. The signing of memorandums of understanding between the two countries was also highlighted. “Today, I am certain that we will further expand Brazil's commercial relationship with Chile in the agricultural sector,” Fávaro emphasized.
Currently, the trade relationship between the two countries is balanced. Brazil exports approximately $1.5 billion annually to Chile, while Chile exports around $1.4 billion to Brazil. Minister Fávaro also highlighted Brazil's imports from Chile. “When there is a good diplomatic and commercial relationship, things work well. The largest Brazilian food product exported to Chile is salmon and fish. It is a very important part of Brazil's sales to Chile. We generate reciprocal opportunities and thus develop our countries,” he stated.
The Business Forum organized by ApexBrasil included the participation of authorities from both countries and around 500 Brazilian and Chilean businesspeople.
