July ends with historic record of new market accesses
This July stands out as the best month on record for new trade agreements for Brazilian agribusiness products. According to the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, 16 new market opportunities were accessed in 9 countries over the past 31 days.
This performance surpasses the previous record set in July 2020, when ten opportunities were accessed in five countries. Last year, the same month saw the access of one market in one country, contributing to a historic total of 78 new markets in 39 countries throughout 2023. During President Lula's third term, 166 new markets in 55 destinations have already been expanded.
July is also the second-best month of this year, behind only June, which recorded 26 new markets. It surpasses May with 15, March with 10, January with nine, February with seven, and April with five new market accesses. In 2024, 88 new markets in 34 countries have already been accounted for, covering all continents.
Among the main markets accessed this month are day-old chicks to Mexico, edible offal to Chile, fats and oils from poultry and ruminants to Ecuador, shrimp to Australia, and eggs and fish to Cuba.
“The performance in July highlights international confidence in the sanitary safety and quality of Brazilian products. Under the leadership of Minister Carlos Fávaro and the Mapa team, we continue to expand our markets thanks to the rigor and innovation in Brazilian agribusiness,” said the Secretary of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry, Roberto Perosa.
The expansion of international markets has been crucial for the growth of Brazilian exports. In the first six months of 2024, agribusiness accounted for 49.2% of the country’s total exports. The revenue generated by the sector in this period reached $82.39 billion, the second-highest value in the historical series.
These achievements result from the joint efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
