In just 7 Months, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock achieves annual market access record
With the recent access to four new markets in Cuba, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has broken its own record for new agricultural product market expansions in a single year, according to historical records.
Since the beginning of the year, 82 new markets have been accessed in 34 countries, totaling 160 since the start of 2023, when President Lula began his third term and Carlos Fávaro took office as minister of Agriculture.
Monthly figures show 26 new markets in June (13 countries), 15 in May (10 countries), 5 in April (3 countries), 10 in March (7 countries), 7 in February (6 countries), and 9 in January (5 countries).
In July, so far, the Brazilian government has received authorization to export the following products: eggs and egg products, wild-caught fish and its products, gelatin and collagen, and farmed fish and its products to Cuba; shrimp and shrimp meat to Australia; oils and fats from poultry and ruminants to Ecuador; cattle and buffalo for breeding to Gabon; edible offal to Chile; and day-old chicks to Mexico.
This new record significantly surpasses the numbers of the past five years: 35 new markets in 22 countries in 2019, 74 in 24 countries in 2020, 77 in 33 countries in 2021, 53 in 26 countries in 2022, and 78 in 39 countries in 2023.
“This means that, on average, a new market opportunity has been created every four days this year. We are working intensively to achieve new records,” emphasized Minister Carlos Fávaro.
The market accesses encompass all continents and include not only traditional Brazilian products such as meat and soybeans but also a variety of agricultural products such as fish, seeds, gelatin and collagen, eggs, rendered animal products, powdered açaí, green coffee, embryos, and semen.
“Access to new markets demonstrates the competitiveness and reliability of the Brazilian productive sector, recognized in over 200 countries for its sanitary quality. This international expansion boosts exports, contributing to a positive trade balance, and generating jobs and income for rural workers,” highlighted Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Trade and International Relations.
These achievements are the result of coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
