G20 Agriculture Working Group boosts global visibility of Brazilian agribusiness
Secretary of Trade and International Relations, Roberto Perosa; the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro; and the Deputy Secretary of Trade and International Relations, Julio Ramos.
This week, fifty diplomatic delegations are gathering in the state of Mato Grosso for the G20 Agriculture Working Group (AWG) meeting. Organized by Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), the event includes delegations from over 20 member countries, representatives from international organizations, and nations strategically invited by Brazilian authorities.
The opening ceremony, held on Tuesday (10th), featured the participation of the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, and the ministry’s Secretary of Trade and International Relations, Roberto Perosa.
Minister Fávaro expressed confidence in the development of the Ministerial Declaration, which he believes will be pivotal in shaping the future of agriculture both in Brazil and globally. "This is not just a letter; it’s a declaration that makes the commitment much more serious. I believe we will reach a consensus to present it at the leaders' summit," Fávaro stated.
The event has seen a record number of Agriculture Ministers in attendance, who are focused on discussing the future of global agriculture. "This is a significant opportunity for Brazil, marking the country’s return to international prominence and taking a leading role in this global discussion about the future of agriculture," Perosa emphasized.
Speaking to the press, Secretary Perosa elaborated on the importance of the Ministerial Declaration. "We are working diligently to ensure that, for the first time in recent years, we achieve a Ministerial Declaration. This document will guide countries in implementing their local policies. Without a declaration, there’s only a letter outlining the agreements made, but a declaration has the power to hold countries accountable to their respective civil societies," he explained.
The event promotes diplomatic collaboration among ministers and lays the groundwork for future trade partnerships through bilateral meetings on September 10th and 11th, ahead of the Agriculture Ministers' meeting scheduled for September 12th.
