Brazilian agribusiness exports reach $15.20 billion in June and $82.39 billion in the first half of the year
Brazilian agribusiness exports reached $15.20 billion in June 2024, an increase from May 2024, which saw exports totaling $15.02 billion.
Brazil's grain exports rose from 14.96 million tons in June 2023 to 15.07 million tons in June 2024, a growth of 0.7%. In addition to the increase in grain exports, there was a rise in the quantity exported of cane sugar (+335.1 thousand tons), cellulose (+182.8 thousand tons), uncarded and uncombed cotton (+100.1 thousand tons), soybean meal (+84.0 thousand tons), and green coffee (+64.6 thousand tons). Based on these data, the quantity index for agribusiness exports showed positive growth of 4.5%.
“The increase in exports in the first half of 2024 reflects not only the excellence of our products but also the result of record market openings and ongoing dialogue with other countries. The government's encouragement and support from the sector and associations have been crucial for this growth, demonstrating the strength and competitiveness of Brazilian agribusiness on the international stage, as well as the quality and rigorous sanitary control of our products,” emphasized Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Trade and International Relations at the ministry.
Over the past 12 months, agribusiness exports totaled $166.20 billion, representing a growth of 2.4% compared to the previous 12 months. Between July 2023 and June 2024, agribusiness products accounted for 48.6% of all Brazilian exports, 0.2 percentage points above the share recorded between July 2022 and June 2023.
HIGHLIGHTS OF BRAZILIAN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS
In the first half of 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached $82.39 billion, the second-highest value on record.
During this period, the five main sectors of Brazilian agribusiness showed significant performance in exports. Soy and soy products led, reaching $33.53 billion, representing 40.7% of total agribusiness exports. The meat sector followed with exports of $11.81 billion, equivalent to 14.3% of agribusiness exports. The sugar-alcohol complex recorded $9.22 billion, corresponding to 11.2% of the total, while forestry products totaled $8.34 billion, representing 10.1%. Lastly, the coffee sector reached $5.31 billion, accounting for 6.4% of exports. Together, these sectors were responsible for 82.8% of Brazilian agribusiness exports.
The meat sector, the second-largest exporter, showed a growth of 1.6% compared to 2023, reaching $11.81 billion. Beef stood out, accounting for 48.1% of the value exported, with $5.14 billion, an increase of 18.3%. The quantity of frozen beef exported set a record, totaling 1.14 million tons, a growth of 29.1%.
The sugar-alcohol complex saw its exports increase from $5.99 billion in 2023 to $9.22 billion in 2024, a growth of 54.1%. Sugar, the main product of the sector, reached $8.66 billion, an increase of 62.8%. Exports of raw cane sugar also set records, both in value, with $7.21 billion, and in quantity, with 14.33 million tons.
Forestry products recorded growth of 11.9%, totaling $8.34 billion. Cellulose accounted for 59.6% of this total, with $4.97 billion, an increase of 19.5%. The quantity of cellulose exported also set a record for the first half, with nearly 10 million tons, a growth of 3.1%.
The coffee sector stood out with external sales of $5.31 billion, a growth of 46.1% in value and 52.1% in quantity compared to the previous year.
Other products also showed notable performances. Uncarded and uncombed cotton reached a record $2.68 billion, an increase of 236%, with 1.39 million tons exported, a growth of 228%. Orange juice also set a record, with $1.25 billion in exports, an increase of 24%.
