Brazil strengthens agricultural cooperation at BRICS with Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock participation
Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) is represented at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, by Luis Rua, Secretary of Trade and International Relations, as part of the Brazilian delegation led by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. The event, chaired by Russia, gathers leaders from countries including China, India, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and South Africa, with Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participating remotely.
The summit focuses on critical global issues such as food security, climate change, and the use of local currencies in international trade, reflecting the common priorities of BRICS nations. Under the leadership of Agriculture Minister Carlos Fávaro, Mapa is working to reinforce Brazil’s position as a leading global food supplier, emphasizing the importance of multilateral cooperation in tackling food security, climate change, and energy challenges.
The Ministry of Agriculture's delegation also includes Marcel Moreira, Director of Trade and Investment Promotion, and Marco Túlio Santiago, Agricultural Attaché in Russia.
Luis Rua highlighted that Brazil’s recent expansion of its network of agricultural attachés strengthens the country’s influence within BRICS, especially as global demand for food security and sustainability grows. “With agricultural attachés now present in all BRICS countries, including both founding and new members, Brazil’s capacity for negotiation and cooperation is significantly enhanced. These professionals play a crucial role in advancing a robust agricultural agenda, promoting technology exchanges, and aligning Brazil’s interests with those of our strategic partners,” Rua emphasized.
