BILATERAL MEETING
Brazil and Azerbaijan sign Memorandum of Understanding for livestock and animal health
Brazil's Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, and Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture, Magnum Mammadov, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Friday, the 13th, to strengthen cooperation in livestock and animal health. The agreement was finalized during a bilateral meeting at the G20 Agriculture Working Group (AWG).
The cooperation encompasses developing the livestock sector, enhancing animal health and raw materials, promoting horticulture, managing agribusiness and land resources sustainably, and advancing genetics, biotechnology, agricultural machinery, and pest and disease control.
Minister Carlos Fávaro emphasized the importance of sharing science and technology, noting that the agreement would pave the way for commercial advancements. "We will move forward with the implementation of these cooperations. This is a timely opportunity to create new commercial opportunities that benefit both countries equally," Fávaro said.
Minister Mammadov underscored the significance of signing the memorandum, particularly in relation to cooperation with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). He mentioned a recent meeting with Embrapa's president, Silvia Massruhá, where they discussed partnerships focused on climate change research. "We recognize the importance of collaboration and research in this area. Our commitment to diplomatic relations and agricultural cooperation remains strong," said Mammadov.
This year, Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, will host the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in November. Both ministers emphasized the event as a key milestone, especially in the lead-up to COP30, which will be held in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025.
