Teachers from East Timor are trained by professors from Brazilian federal institutes
The initiative, requested by the Timorese government from Brazil, is a joint action coordinated by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the aim of helping to strengthen East Timor's education system.
The Brazilian teachers were selected through a public invitation to tender issued by the National Council of Federal Network Institutions (Conif) and the Secretariat for Professional and Technological Education (Setec/MEC).
For four months, they will work in five Timorese municipalities: Dili, Baucau, Bobonaro, Covalima and Ermera, offering training courses in areas such as accounting, commerce, secretarial work, computer equipment management, multimedia, programming languages, agricultural production and construction.
As well as teaching the classes, the Brazilian teachers also have the important task of evaluating the TVET program, suggesting possible improvements and identifying infrastructure and teaching material needs for future phases of the project.
This pilot action is part of a program designed by the Timorese government which, by 2027, aims to train around 500 teachers in 17 technical courses.
This educational cooperation marks the resumption of the partnership between Brazil and Timor-Leste in the area of education, strengthening ties between the two countries and promoting the exchange of knowledge. The work of Brazilian teachers not only contributes to the development of technical education in the Asian country, but also represents an important step in the sustainable expansion of international cooperation in this sector.
