Last shipment of rice donation arrives in Mozambique
The last shipment of one thousand tons of rice out of a total donation of 4 thousand tons, which the Brazilian Government made to the benefit of the Mozambican Government as humanitarian relief efforts, arrived at the port of Maputo, in Mozambique, on April 5th.
The Brazilian Ambassador to Mozambique, Mr. Carlos Alfonso Iglesias Puente, delivered the Brazilian donation to the Mozambican Government, represented by the chairwoman of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD, acronym in Portuguese), Ms. Luísa Meque, during a symbolic ceremony held on April 8th.
This rice will meet the food and nutritional needs of the Mozambican population affected by the recent storm and cyclone seasons - such as cyclones Gombe, Idai and Kenneth - especially in the provinces of Niassa, Nampula and Cabo Delgado.
This humanitarian action’s operations were coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC, acronym in Portuguese), under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE, acronym in Portuguese), and counted on the participation of the National Food Supply Company (CONAB, acronym in Portuguese), under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA), and the Brazilian Embassy in Maputo. Additionally, such efforts had the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), which hired, with resources from ABC, sea freight and insurance services for the transportation of this cargo.
