Brazil donates 1.3 million pediatric vaccines to the Dominican Republic
The Brazilian Government donated to the Government of the Dominican Republic, as humanitarian cooperation and without compromising the national supply, 500 thousand doses of the Triple DTP vaccine (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis), 500 thousand doses of the Triple Viral vaccine, and 358 thousand doses of the Inactive Poliomyelitis vaccine (IPV), from the Brazilian public stocks operated by the Ministry of Health.
The transportation of the cargo, from São Paulo to Santo Domingo, in refrigerated containers to ensure the integrity of the vaccines, was carried out with the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The vaccines arrived in that country on March 25.
The symbolic ceremony to deliver the donation took place on April 5th, at the Dominican Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance. The Ambassador of Brazil, Renan Paes Barreto, expressed the Brazilian Government's satisfaction in supporting the Dominican Republic with thousands of vaccines for its expanded immunization program and highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance of the Dominican Republic, Daniel Rivera, expressed his gratitude for the vaccines, which will allow the immunization of about 1.4 million Dominican youth and children.
The operation was coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), with the support of the Brazilian Embassy in Santo Domingo.
